These are some of the common questions Anne gets asked on a
regular basis...

+ Are there risks of not getting therapy when I need it?
It is healthy to look at the cost-benefit-risk factors when considering therapy. To do so, consider what the potential life cost would be if you do not get the help you need at this time.
There are some questions you may ask yourself: Is it possible that my personal health could suffer? Could I experience an increase in anxiety, stress, or burnout? Is it possible that my relationships could suffer? Could I lose my partner, family, or friends? Is it possible that I could lose my job, or that much desired promotion? Would this impact my financial status? Is it possible that I could find myself struggling with addictions or using other unhealthy means to cope with the situation?
When considering the reality of what possibly could happen, therapy can prove to be a rather reasonably priced option to otherwise more severe challenges upon ones health, relationships, and career. Therapy should be considered as an investment in yourself. Remember, you are worth investing in.
+ Are you able to estimate the number of sessions I will need?
Even with all the experience I have, it is impossible to be sure how many sessions it will take, especially after just one session. Sometimes I have thought something would take quite some time and it took only a few sessions; and the other way around. It is important to realize if the client takes an active role in the healing process, it likely will take less time for therapy.
+ How much does a therapy session (therapy hour) cost?
A day-time therapy session with Anne is $130.00 per "therapy hour".
+ What is a "therapy hour"?
A "therapy hour" is 50 minutes. This allows enough time at the beginning and end of the session for required paperwork, insurance forms and payment proccessing.
+ Why does it cost so much for therapy with a psychologist?
To practice as a Licensed Psychologist in the province of New Brunswick you have to complete the following:
University Undergraduate Degree - 4 years University Graduate Masters/Doctorate Degree - 2-4 years Supervised Work Experience - 3 years Complete the EPPP licensing exam Complete the oral licensing exam Pay an annual licensing fee Purchase liability insurance Maintain office space Have appointment scheduling software or receptionist Keep accurate records which can take more time than the actual therapy session.
It takes a minimum of 10 years to become a licensed psychologist in NB (which is similar to a doctor or psychiatrist), Doctors' and psychiatrists' fees are 2 to 3 times more than psychologists.
+ I'm a business owner. Can a therapy session with a psychologist be covered through my business?
As a business owner you may have several options to choose from, depending upon your coverage and the type of service requested. Your sessions could perhaps be declared as a personal development expense. Such coverage is not guaranteed, however, as it largely depends upon your line of business and current legislation. For such matters you should always consult qualified professionals such as an accountant and tax advisor.
+ Do I need a doctor’s referral to see a psychologist?
As therapy with a psychologist is not covered by Medicare, you do not need a referral from a doctor. We see many clients with and without a doctor's referral. However many private insurers require a referral from a doctor in order for you to be reimbursed for your expenses. Please check with your employer's human resources department or health insurance company first.
